POSITION SUMMARY:
The ULI Center for Sustainability and Economic Performance (CSEP) and ULI Asia Pacific are seeking a Senior Manager to lead environment, social, and governance (ESG) and decarbonization thought leadership work for the Asia Pacific region, develop and grow the ULI Greenprint real estate membership, and support regional ULI Net Zero Imperative technical assistance panels (TAPs).
Reducing carbon emissions and increasing building value across the built environment is a ULI Global Mission Priority, and a core focus of CSEP. This includes development of research reports and resources on the business case for high-performance green buildings, convening of market leaders to advance sustainability in real estate, and the promotion of Greenprint member progress to the broader ULI membership and real estate market at large. Long-term focus areas include city climate goals and policies as well as landlord and tenant sustainability opportunities.
The ULI Net Zero Imperative (NZI) is a multiyear program providing research and technical assistance to public- and private-sector leaders to accelerate decarbonization in the built environment. The goal of the NZI effort is to provide concrete ideas and strategies to the beneficiaries of the TAPs and the general public to eliminate carbon emissions from the built environment. The Net Zero advisory initiative will also foster a long-term cohort of participants to collaborate over time and learn from each other as they work to implement the recommendations from the panels.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advance ULI’s net-zero-carbon initiative in the Asia Pacific region. Work with CSEP to customize global research, tools, and training programs in real estate decarbonization for the ULI Asia Pacific audience.
- Lead new Asia Pacific research, toolkit development, and training programs on decarbonization, resilience, and ESG topics. Leverage the ULI Asia Pacific Resilient Cities Council and Greenprint real estate members in the Asia Pacific region to develop tools and training programs in decarbonization, as well as case studies on regional net zero projects, net zero/ESG investment funds, and net zero/ESG real estate portfolios.
- Support ULI Net Zero Imperative TAPs in the region, as well as other TAPs in Asia with a decarbonization and sustainability focus.
- Build and support the Greenprint real estate membership—support ULI Greenprint real estate members in the Asia Pacific region, cultivate the local network, and support the recruitment of new ULI Greenprint real estate members in the region.
- Develop (curate and execute) programming on ESG and decarbonization topics for major ULI regional conferences and Asia Pacific–wide virtual programming.
- Support the ULI Asia Pacific Resilient Cities Product Council, as well as ESG and sustainability-focused product councils in the region (e.g., Singapore and Japan).
- Support the deployment of an ESG training program for real estate executives in the Asia Pacific region.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least 5 years of relevant private-sector and/or nonprofit experience.
- Good working knowledge of sustainability, climate change, green buildings, real estate, local climate policy, and related topics.
- A strategic thinker, a strong writer, a problem solver, and an excellent communicator.
- Experience with and comfort engaging with senior leaders in real estate and land use.
- Able to maintain keen attention to details, timelines, and various moving project pieces.
- Strong facilitation and partnership skills—easily fosters relationships and partnerships with stakeholders to ensure their buy-in and follow-through program successes.
- Strong research and English writing skills—ready to be a lead author of ULI research reports, case studies, and toolkits.
- Strong presentation skills—capable of presenting Greenprint content and membership pitches to the broader market.
- Self-driven, can determine work methods and processes to follow in carrying out work assignments.
- Proficiency in oral and/or written Chinese is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and experience with web design/WordPress a plus.
