    'What Sparks Joy?'

     

    Art in Place x Joanne Chan @ Spark City

     

    In Hong Kong, we see an opportunity to activate underutilised spaces such as vacant shopfronts and construction hoardings for art and cultural activities. Art in Place (AIP) is an initiative from ULI Americas, aiming to create stronger connections between artists and real estate enterprises through creative placemaking. As 1 of the 8 cohorts globally, Hong Kong is the first international, and the only representation in Asia.

     

    The inaugural project is a 9.6 x 2 metre mural in place of a regular construction hoarding that can be disassembled in 8 pieces for second life appreciation after the building is open for use. Before the mural is completed, AIP will host a series of workshops and community engagement, the 'What Sparks Joy?' campaign (inspired by the upcoming Spark City concept in Mong Kok by Fairland Holdings) to raise awareness and encourage people to find beauty in the ordinary things around us. The campaign is set to include workshops curated by Joanne Chan, a Hong Kong-born artist who creates abstract, vibrant colour-field paintings. She is passionate about involving the community in her creative process and harnessing their energy to create a curated expression. The 1.5hr session will include project & concept introduction, a What Sparks Joy sketch exercise and a mural painting session with the artist to learn basic techniques & explore the neighbourhood colour palette.

    在香港，我們有機會激活未被使用的空間，如空置的店面和建築圍板，用於藝術和文化活動。通過行動，我們可以把鄰里聚集起來，振興整個社區。「Art In Place 藝聚空間」（AIP) 是ULI Americas的一項倡議，計劃旨在通過創意空間營造進而促進藝術家和房地產企業之間更緊密的聯繫，並創造更有活力的社區。作為全球八個小組其中之一，香港是第一個國際組，也是亞洲唯一的代表。

     

    首項目是一幅取代普通建筑圍板的9.6 x 2米壁畫。在建筑開放使用后，此壁畫可拆成八塊，搬走以二次利用及欣賞。在壁畫完成前，AIP將舉辦一系列的工作坊和社區活動「What Sparks Joy? 」（靈感來自於俊業集團位於大角咀的Spark City俊薈），以提高意識，鼓勵人們從身旁的事物中發現美好。該活動將包括由陳頌欣策劃的工作坊。她是一位在香港出生的藝術家，注重抽象和充滿活力的色域畫，並熱衷於與街坊一起創作，希望透過社區的能量來創造一個精心策劃的藝術表達。一個半小時的課程將包括項目和概念介紹，「What Sparks Joy? 」素描練習，以及與藝術家一起學習基本技術和探索社區顏色的壁畫課程。
