Report Launch and Workshop Low-Cost Rental Housing in Hong Kong: Identifying innovative private sector solutions
Members $100
Non-Members $300
Innovation in Hong Kong's low-cost housing market may be used to alleviate the challenges posed by inadequate housing stock. As of 2022, more than 220,000 individuals were living in inadequate housing, while the average waiting time for public rental housing (PRH) is 5.6 years.
Increasing housing attainability is a ULI mission priority, and our recent Low-Cost Housing Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) has completed a report which explores how the private sector could built rental units in new built or refurbished buildings in urban areas at a monthly rental of up to HKD 6,000 per month. This would help shorten the PRH waiting list and provide better quality living at low cost in the inner city. In addition to providing social goods, this could also be a new investable product providing stable, long term yields.
Join us on Thursday 18 May to hear our report highlights, and be part of the solution in our interactive workshops to prepare for the next stage in this initiative where we will conduct more in-depth analysis of districts and sites where our proposal would be most effective.
