    In late 2021, ULI's Greenprint Center for Building Performance interviewed members of the Sustainable Development Council (Americas), the Sustainability Council (Europe), and the Resilient Cities Council (Asia Pacific) to inform an "outlook" for 2022. A concerted and collaborative effort that will advance the sustainability agenda forward.

    Benett Theseira

    Managing Director, Head of Asia Pacific, PGIM Real Estate

    Benett Theseira is a Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific at PGIM Real Estate. Based in Singapore, Benett is responsible for the development and oversight of PGIM Real Estate’s businesses in Asia Pacific. Benett is a member of the Global Management Council, the Global Investment Committee and the Asia Pacific Investment Committee. Before joining PGIM Real Estate, Benett was the President of MEAG Pacific Star Asia and Pacific Star Capital where he was responsible for the Investment and Fund Management business in Asia for over 6 years. Prior to this, he spent 9 years with the CapitaLand group and held various roles including Managing Director, Europe and Chief Corporate and Investment Officer for the Ascott Group Limited (CapitaLand’s then publicly listed serviced apartment arm). Benett is a Colombo Plan Scholar and started his career with the Singapore Government in the Ministry of Law where he held the position of Assistant Commissioner of Lands. In addition to his professional roles, Benett serves as a Justice of the Peace in Singapore, a Trustee and former President of the Eurasian Association, Singapore and sits on the advisory boards of several Singapore Government agencies. He is also a Global Governing Trustee of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and Chair of ULI Singapore.

    Albert Chan

    Director of Planning and Development, Group Chief Sustainability Officer, Shui On Land

    Albert Chan leads the site feasibility and concept, master planning and design management of large scaled mixed-use developments at Shui On Land. Over the last 20+ years, Albert actively participated in the planning and development of award winning “Tiandi” communities in Shanghai, Wuhan, Chongqing, Foshan and other cities in China. All communities utilize principles of mixed-use, pedestrian and public transit, sustainability, cultural sensitivity, appropriate phasing, and the creation of landmarks places for development. He also chairs the Sustainable Development Committee at the company. Among the projects Albert actively participated over the years, the Shanghai Xintiandi, Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) and Lingnan Tiandi all won ULI Global Award for Excellence, and the latter two developments also won the ULI Asia Pacific Award for Excellence. The Shanghai Taipingqiao community, Foshan Lingnan Tiandi, Wuhan Tiandi are also recognized by The World Bank, AIA National and CTBUH with their respective awards. Most of these communities and commercial developments received both LEED-neighborhood level and building level Gold certifications. In terms of public place creation, over 260 public plazas, parks and public streets have been planned and built in these communities over the years. Albert graduated from the Stern School at NYU, Columbia University, and U.C. Berkeley, and is a registered architect of New York State. He is a ULI Global Governing Trustee and Chairs the ULI Mainland China Council. Albert speaks regularly at major development and design conferences, and has been a development and design award juror for ULI, AIA, CTBUH, China Real Estate Design Awards and other institutions.

    Esther An

    Chief Sustainability Officer, City Developments Limited

    An active advocate for green building and sustainability for over two decades, Esther has been instrumental in establishing CDL’s leadership in sustainability. It is ranked top real estate company on the 2021 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World and is also the only CDP A-List company for both climate strategy and water security in SE Asia and Hong Kong. Key ESG initiatives she has spearheaded include publishing the first sustainability report in Singapore in 2008; issuing the first green bond by a Singaporean company in 2017 and pioneering an SDG Innovation Loan in Singapore in 2019. A forerunner in embracing the UN SDGs, Esther was conferred 2018 SDG Pioneer for Green Infrastructure and A Low Carbon Economy by the UN Global Compact, is a signatory for the UNGC Caring for Climate network and is also a corporate member to the UN ESCAP Sustainable Business Network. She sits on the boards or advisory platforms of several organisations, including World Green Building Council, Global Reporting Initiative, GRESB Asian Real Estate Benchmark Committee and UNEP FI Real Estate Work Group. She Chairs the Asia Pacific Real Estate Association’s Sustainability and ESG Committee, Co-Chairs the Urban Land Institute Singapore’s Sustainability Product Council and Vice-Chairs the Singapore Institute of Directors’ ESG Committee.

    Marta Schantz

    Senior Vice President, ULI Greenprint Center for Building Performance, Urban Land Institute

    Marta Schantz is the senior vice president for the Urban Land Institute’s Greenprint Center for Building Performance at the, a worldwide alliance of real estate owners committed to improving the environmental performance of the industry – reducing carbon, and increasing building value. Recent focus areas range from City/Real Estate Partnerships for Climate Policy, to Embodied Carbon in Real Estate, to Class B/C Office Energy Efficiency. Before her time at ULI, Marta consulted to utilities and real estate at Waypoint Energy, performed federal energy consulting at Booz Allen Hamilton, and conducted energy project cost analyses at the US Department of Energy. Marta is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a LEED Green Associate and a Fitwel Ambassador.
