TOKYO (May 22, 2015) – Nearly 300 of the world’s top leaders in real estate and land use will convene at the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) 2015 Asia Pacific Summit, set for June 2-4 in Tokyo at two iconic locations — the Tsunamachi Mitsui Club, situated in the heart of Tokyo, and Toranomon Hills, one of the city’s newest developments. ULI is a global research and education institute dedicated to responsible land use and building thriving, sustainable communities.
With the theme “Connect with the World of Real Estate,” the meeting will emphasize building healthy, resilient communities for the 21st century, focusing on a wide range of topics including:
· Transformational changes that are reshaping the built environment
· Community building legacies of Olympic cities (Tokyo is preparing to host the 2020 Summer Olympics Games)
· The long-term sustainability of Japan’s economic recovery
· Innovative mixed-use developments
· The impact of capital flowing into Japan and out of Asia to other regions
· Creating livable environments in high-density cities
A highlight of the meeting: the Right Honorable Sir John Major, former British Prime Minister, will be leading a discussion June 2 on using Olympic events to catalyze building for health and wellness. Keynote presenters include Heizo Takenaka, professor, Keio University, who will be speaking on Japan’s economic recovery; and Paul Noritaka Tange, president, Tange Associates, who will be speaking on livable high-density communities.
The Asia Pacific Real Estate Summit is taking place during a time of great promise for Tokyo — according to Emerging Trends in Real Estate® Asia Pacific, jointly published by ULI and PwC, Japan remains a favored country for real estate activity in 2015. Tokyo and Osaka ranked first and third, respectively, in terms of investment and development prospects for the year. “We are delighted to be convening in Tokyo, and we look forward to experiencing the innovative design and development that is propelling this great city,” said ULI Global Chief Executive Officer and Real Estate Summit speaker Patrick L. Phillips.
Founded in 1936, ULI has more than 34,000 members around the globe, including more than 1,850 in the Asia Pacific region. The summit, now in its fourth year, is a wonderful example of how ULI’s time-honored tradition of information sharing is embraced in markets worldwide,” Phillips said. “We’ll be discussing how to make our cities livable and flexible enough to meet the needs of future generations. The dialogue will be an important contribution to ULI’s advancement of building practices that result in healthy, resilient communities.”
