In 2015/16, ULI Singapore and the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) embarked on a new research collaboration on “Creating Liveable Cities through Car-lite Urban Mobility”. The purpose of the project is to formulate practical recommendations that complement the government’s ongoing efforts by inviting contributions of inputs and ideas from other stakeholders.

The research process involved engaging the stakeholders through two workshops. Over 120 representatives from diverse backgrounds including the government, the real estate industry, the design and research community, the businesses that provide innovative mobility solutions as well as the civic groups took part in the workshop discussions. At the first workshop, participants discussed key challenges and enablers in moving cities towards a more sustainable mobility future. At the second workshop, using Jurong Lake District (JLD) as a study site, former transportation chief of Chicago and Washington, Gabe Klein led the discussion and provided valuable insights and practical tips on how city leaders and policy makers could work together with the community and the private sector to get meaningful initiatives off the ground quickly and effectively.

The key research recommendations will be presented on 11th July at the upcoming World Cities Summit 2016. The event will also feature a response panel of esteemed city and industry leaders, who will share their own experiences and perspectives on the role of sustainable urban mobility in creating liveable cities.

The discussion will close with networking cocktails hosted by ULI Global CEO, Patrick Phillips.
