Please join ULI on Tuesday, March 21 for an exclusive presentation of the Yangon urban regeneration initiative, a unique study and implementation guidelines on renovating hundreds of historic buildings in Yangon City, while creating investment value.
In 2015 The Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA) deployed a team of 10 international and local planners, architects and economists to help the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) and the Yangon Heritage Trust (YHT) define an investment programme for a comprehensive heritage-led regeneration initiative in selected pilot areas in the city’s historic core. The study mapped out opportunities and constraints for upgrading of historic properties and public space, identified supporting infrastructure improvements and prepared technical, legal and financial analysis to demonstrate a feasible alternative to redevelopment that is more respectful of the historic fabric and also provides more acceptable and affordable alternatives to residents.
Harry Wardill of non-profit Turquoise Mountain will introduce the organisation’s adaptive reuse proposals for a well-known building close to the Sule Pagoda, showing how heritage conservation and building regeneration can work hand-in-hand to bring about a vibrant and viable urban future.
We will conclude with Panel Discussion with the presenters to discuss investment and development opportunities in Yangon and Myanmar.
