UrbanPlan
What is UrbanPlan?
UrbanPlan is a realistic, engaging board-game-style simulation and negotiation exercise in which participants—high school students, university students, or public officials—learn about the fundamental forces that affect real estate development in our communities. Teams are tasked with producing a regeneration scheme for a declining urban neighbourhood through trade-offs and collaborative planning. Multi-disciplinary role-play ensures that critical issues are highlighted, discussed and negotiated from diverse public and private sector perspectives. Teams are required to formulate a placemaking vision and are encouraged to propose solutions that are both socially desirable and economically viable, to create a vibrant, accessible urban environment.
The Mission
As the Urban Land Institute’s signature education initiative, UrbanPlan aims to further ULI’s mission of providing leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide, by encouraging a sophisticated level of discourse among local stakeholders involved in land use decisions. UrbanPlan’s goal is to outreach to, engage with and educate a wide breadth of stakeholders, from students, to tomorrow’s voters, neighbours, community leaders, public officials and land use professionals, so – together – we can create better communities.
Our workshops are suitable for the following unique audiences:
