Mission: The Urban Land Institute provides leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide. ULI is an independent global nonprofit supported by members representing the entire spectrum of real estate development and land use disciplines.
To be a global organization and to fulfill its mission, ULI has a strong presence in Asia. The opportunity to assist with challenges presented by the region’s rapid urbanisation, the potential of significant growth in membership and influence for the Institute, and the committed support of ULI’s Asia leadership combine to make it the right time for ULI’s investment in Asia.
A ULI Asia office was opened in Hong Kong in the fall of 2007. In its first few months ULI Asia has energized the Asia leadership base in North and South Asia and delivered quality programs to more than 1000 professionals at ULI events in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Shanghai. Communications have been enhanced with an eNewsletter that reaches more than 15,000 real estate professionals across Asia. As a consequence membership in Asia has grown by more than 36 percent since the office opened.
ULI is committed to:
- Bringing together leaders from across the fields of real estate and land use policy to exchange best practices and serve community needs;
- Fostering collaboration within and beyond ULI’s membership through mentoring, dialogue, and problem solving;
- Exploring issues of urbanization, conservation, regeneration, land use, capital formation, and sustainable development;
- Advancing land use policies and design practices that respect the uniqueness of both the built and natural environments;
- Sharing knowledge through education, applied research, publishing, and electronic media; and
- Sustaining a diverse global network of local practice and advisory efforts that address current and future challenges.
Established in 1936, the Institute today has almost 40,000 members worldwide, representing the entire spectrum of the land use and development disciplines. ULI relies heavily on the experience of its members. It is through member involvement and information resources that ULI has been able to set standards of excellence in development practice. The Institute has long been recognized as one of the world’s most respected and widely quoted sources of objective information on urban planning, growth, and development.
